chest injury

I keep getting a pain in my chest right in the middle where the breast bone is. I only do weights once a week. the rest of the time i run twice a week and box twice a week. In boxing we do lots of press ups (100-200) and i’ve obviously damaged it in this way.

however i first went to a sports massage therapist who thought it was that i had damaged the sternum or rib. he gave me arnica to rub on my chest in case it was just bad bruising. he also recommended me to get an xray.

i got an xray and nothing is wrong no problems with muscle tissue nothing is broken.i got given some anti inflammotries by doc but i still get the pain when i do a press up or dip.

what could it be?has anyone had this before?i dont want to stop doing my press ups or dips (i have not done any properly since january)

if the pain is in the sternum area ,it wont show up on an x-ray because it is not there until you exercise ,dont stop the routine but reduce it gradually till you notice physical diferance, you will experience a change when you reduce the dips ,the press ups have more support than the dips over all .Best of luck keep me up to date if you dont mind .Maybe you can help me improve my upper body
    appearance with some advice .cheers

I know people who have a similar problem through boxing. It possibly a sternum problem, esp if you have trouble breathing. I would suggest getting a second xray done if you can, it’s hard to say what it is and i’m no doctor, just get it seen to!

I have actually had a kind of simular thing and again the doctor could not put his finger on what it was but he had a feeling it was to do with the intercostal muscles. My x-rays also came up fine! I was given lots of painkillers then a couple of days bed rest and a week off training, I now only feel it when going real heavy on deadlift or hack squat so I just ignore it! lol
