Well too much nitrogen (found in protein) can stress the kidneys, as they have to excrete excess via the urine in the form of urea. The damage may not be visible as it may come out in later life, to go unrecognised. Since we all eat too much protein anyway (in developed countries), i don't see why extra in the form of supplements is required.

It isn't protein which they have said this about, but creatine. This has not been proven though. So i wouldn't worry too much. But it is never wise to rely on supplements too much.

not sure where you heard this rubbish from. protein is found in all meats, fish and many foods. you need protein to build muscle, have healthy hair, nails and skin tone. without extra muscle you won't build extra muscle. whey protein is the best, easy to digest and totally safe, as it is isolated from milk or cheese. obviously the only time you need to watch eating lots of protein is if you suffer from kidney disease, but you cannot get this from eating lots of protein. if this was the case then every bodybuilders who eats loads of protein would have kidney disease...and i have never met one who has. as for packaging claims and labels. any product bought from a reputable UK company is 99% guaranteed to contain the correct nutrient amounts. trading standards is very strict in the UK. If you want to use American brands, only stick will very big ones, as they have less regulation there and more marketing hype.
