The subject of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) for increasing performance has been thrown around for years. It all started when research during the second world war showed that soldiers who were given large dosages of bicarbonate had more endurance, stamina and less lactic acid than without. Excellent, I hear you shout.

So, why do we not sell this simple and cheap product for increasing performance? The reason is because of the potential side effects that bicarbonate causes. To get any benefit from bicarbonate use, you need at least 300-400 mg per kg of bodyweight. This means that if you weigh 80 kg, you'll need up to 32 grams of powder daily. To get the best results you'll need to take this powder at least 2-4 hours before training or competition. Some require longer, you need to experiment before your race. One word of warning though - be near a toilet. The side effect of bicarbonate can be chronic diarrhoea, stomach upset, cramps, and extreme wind.

The frustrating thing about bicarbonate use is that any benefit you may get is lost through the discomfort you feel. Trust me, its very hard to break a new endurance record, when your clenching your bum cheeks so hard you'd think they were some kind of vice. The few companies that used to sell bicarbonate don't anymore. All the complaints and bad reports resulted in no sales! Maybe the product needs to be combined with some kind of anti-gas or diarrhoea drug. This could possibly help, and I know that some runners, athletes and cyclists do this. If this is the solution it means no supplement company can sell it because it's classified as a drug.

If you do want to improve your performance without worrying about side effects, try Turbo. Turbo is a powerful and unique blend of tri-basic phosphates, Acetyl-L-Carnitine, Co-Q10, and DMG that guarantees increased endurance performance within five days or less!
